Your Remodel Coach
Now more than ever, many homeowners are choosing to remodel their homes due to the current real estate market. It’s a natural progression to want to sell and “move up”, to a newer, bigger and better house. However, many people are unable to do this. There are also the individuals that pursue home remodeling projects to address an immediate need or provide for the future of the house. Any home remodeling project, whether it is a simple fixture replacement or a major addition, will involve pre-planning and financial investment on the part of the homeowner. In addition, no one wants to become involved in a “money pit”, a series of events in which one remodel leads to a dozen unplanned repairs and expenses.
Home improvement is an area that is particularly susceptible to scams and con artists. It may be a mystery to many homeowners as to how to obtain the proper licenses, permits, building codes, construction procedures and home contractors in general.
Before starting the home remodeling project, there are several questions that need to be addressed.
1. Do I need a building permit, and if so, who should get it?
2. Am I capable of managing this home remodeling project myself?
3. Will this home remodeling project address the actual problem?
4. How can I tell if my contractor is trustworthy and licensed?
At IHI Consulting Group, our Remodeling Coach is here to help you in all stages of your proposed project, including the planning and decision-making process. Unlike many contractors, our Remodel Coaches have time to go into detail about the homeowner’s plans, suggest alternate and sometimes less expensive materials and designs, and explain how a home is built. Most contractors juggle so many jobs that they often don’t have time to answer a homeowner’s questions and/or come up with different alternatives for lowering costs. Perhaps most important, our Remodel Coach can help save your sanity and your wallet!
We will listen to your wants and needs and discuss if the project is feasible and that the end result will be desirable. Then we will break down the scope of the project and put together an estimate of what the project would cost if you were to go out to bid. It doesn’t stop there; we also look at what your return on investment would be to make sure you are making a sound financial decision. We will create your out-to-bid package so that all potential contractors can bid “apples to apples” on a simple, easy to read bid form. We will then review the bids to see if there are any warning signs and coach you in making an informed decision on hiring the best contractor.
At IHI Consulting Group, we know construction and are enthusiastic about helping you make informed decisions. Let’s get started!
